MEET OUR HORSES
LUCY
Lucy is a Percheron beauty who was foaled in 2003 and came to work at Starbrite in 2019. She is the matriarch of the Starbrite herd and keeps the other horses in line. Before coming to Starbrite, she worked in other therapeutic programs.
SEVVY
Sevvy is a stunning Missouri Fox Trotter who was foaled in 2008 and came to work at Starbrite in 2019. Before coming to Starbrite, Sevvy worked as a search and rescue horse, so she is always on alert and loves to learn new things.
PENNY
Penny is a beautiful chestnut Quarter Horse who was foaled in 1999 and came to Starbrite in 2020. She is a trained Dressage horse and is loved by many of our independent riders.

TEX
Tex is a Paint Quarter Horse who was foaled in 2003 and came to Starbrite in 2022. He has previously worked as a lesson and trail horse in both English and Western disciplines. Tex has proven himself to be an overcomer and has worked hard to find his place in the herd, becoming best buddies with the cows next door!
MAYBELLINE
Thanks to a friend of Starbrite – we acquired Maybelline in June of 2022! She previously worked in Dallas as a downtown carriage horse. Maybelline is now working as a therapeutic riding horse and makes a wonderful addition to the herd. Maybelline loves spending time with her BFF Rain.
TUMBLES
Tumbleweed aka "Tumbles" is a 29-year-old POA (Pony of America)! Tumbles was donated to us from Frontier camp where he was used as a trail horse. He now is used in our therapeutic riding lessons where he supports our more involved riders.
RAIN
Rain is a 13 year-old Gypsy Morgan Cross who came to work at Starbrite in the beginning of 2024. Rain is known for her very small attention span and loving personality. She can generally be found following around her BFF Maybelline in the pasture!
FREYJA
Freyja came to work at Starbrite Summer 2023! She is a Norwegian Fjord who stands about 14 hands high, a perfect height for our more involved TR riders. She has an incredibly sweet demeanor and is a fan favorite around the barn.
SMOKEY
Smokey is a 14-year-old Quarter Horse who joined the Starbrite herd after working cattle in a sale barn and later enjoying life as a trail horse for a retired couple. Tipping the scales as the third biggest horse at Starbrite, Smokey brings both size and heart to the barn. He has quickly become a favorite among our veterans, offering steady support and a calm presence.

LIL GUNNER
Lil Gunner AKA LG is a 16-year-old pony with a unique background. Before joining Starbrite, he worked in Kilgore, Texas, as a coyote chaser and babysitter for a herd of cows. Now, he’s bringing his skills to a new career as a therapeutic riding pony. While he may be small in stature, LG is a mighty addition to our program, ready to make a big impact!
ROSE
At only 10 years old, Rose is Starbrite’s youngest member. Rose is a pony cross and her petite size makes her the perfect choice for many of our riders who use wheelchairs, as she is both low to the ground for a rider to get on, but also for sidewalkers to more easily support their rider. Rose’s favorite things include cuddles from her people and interacting with her riders.
HABANERO
Habanero aka “Habi” is a 26-year-old Miniature Donkey who came to work at Starbrite as a seeing eye donkey for one of our older horses. Habanero is known as the prankster of Starbrite and is always getting into something he shouldn’t. You won’t have trouble finding him, he likes to let out a “hee-haw” when he sees something new!

ODIN
Odin is a 9-year-old Haflinger who spent the last two years as a pasture puff and proud papa. With one colt on the ground and another on the way, he’s now a gelding in training to become a therapeutic riding horse. Odin is learning everything from the ground up and taking it all in stride as he trains the Starbrite way. He’s known for his sweet personality, flowing mane, and well-earned nickname, Fabio.
JAY BIRD
JB is a 19-year-old Quarter Horse who spent most of his life working as a ranch horse before picking up the fast-paced sport of polocrosse. He brings that same athleticism and heart to his work at Starbrite, where he is currently in training for the program. JB is a gentle and willing partner who takes great care of his riders, but his ears still perk up with excitement any time he’s asked for a quick turn or a familiar maneuver.
KITTY
Kitty may not technically belong to Starbrite, but she’s very much part of the family. Living on-site with her inseparable sidekick, Habanero the donkey. Owned by our Veterans Director, she plays an important role in Starbrite’s Veteran programming working with participants in round penning sessions, going on trail rides (giving lesson horses a well-deserved break), and proudly representing the Starbrite Color Guard team.
